Artist Feature — Carol Luz

Carol Luz

Springbok is excited to welcome a new artist to our jigsaw puzzle offering, Carol Luz from Putnam County, NY.  She is successfully achieving her goal of bringing a smile to others through her work with her partnership with the Springbok brand and we are happy to help her with that mission.

Carol Luz is a published artist known for her whimsical oil paintings of mostly dogs doing human activities. She received her BFA from the Fashion Institute of Technology. Since then she has been published in Dan’s Papers, won the Westhampton Beach Chamber of Commerce Poster Contest twice and her work has been exhibited in the Westhampton Beach Library, Westhampton Beach Art Show, Art League of Long Island, The Reboli Center, The Mark Twain Library, and The Katonah Library.

She works full-time in the magazine industry and paints in her spare time. She grew up in the Hamptons and currently resides in Putnam County, NY with her husband and two dogs Judy and Elroy (named after the Jetsons).

Artist Statement

My body of work mostly consists of dogs doing human things. Other furry friends may make it into a painting as well. Through my paintings, I want to give the animal a character and humorous side to play in a human experience. This combination between animal and human sensibilities creates a whimsical, theatrical, and humorous world that viewers can emotionally relate to.

I am continually learning and experimenting with different styles of contemporary realism that balance my artistic sensibilities, method and sense of humor. My main goal in painting is to bring a smile and chuckle to every viewer, just as animals always do.

Happy Bus

The Happy Bus

The inspiration for this painting came about when I was walking my dogs one day and the local school bus drove by picking up children on their way to school. I looked up and saw the children smiling and looking out of the windows pointing to Judy and Elroy. I thought, how cute would it be to have all kinds of dogs on the bus making goofy faces, sticking their tongues out and laughing in the windows of a school bus. I tried to paint them with their tongues sticking out, but it didn’t read well. Instead, I have them all smiling. They are on their way to ‘Doggy School’.

Dog Days of Summer

Don’t all dogs lay in the pool reading the paper on a lazy hot summer day on a float wearing flip flops?

My inspiration for this painting was the Bull Terrier. Bull Terrier’s are so goofy and entertaining. This is Marty. He loves the pool and being lazy.

Our owner, Steve Pack, discovered Carol’s work at an art fair in the northeast and brought back some examples of her talent for review. Her unique style was an instant hit at the office. Springbok is very excited to begin work this year with Carol and we really look forward to more colorful and playful images to share with our puzzlers in the future!
